Sear chopped onion in olive oil for a few minutes. In the meantime, you can blend the content of canned tomatoes until smooth. Add brown sugar.
Then add ground meat to the pot and stir and cook until it changes color. Remove seeds from peppers and slice them up and add it to the meat. Also add spices (salt, paprika, bay leaf, ground pepper, marjoram, thyme).
Then pour over the tomatoes, add more water, somewhere half a liter, cover with a lid and cook for 35 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Add rice to the dish and cook for an additional 15 minutes until it is done.During cooking time, pour in water if it gets too thick, but let the dish thicken nicely on its own.
Finally taste and add more spices if needed, otherwise you can serve the dish with a piece of bread, boiled potatoes or anything else you like.
